Classes

This section will list all class descriptions and will be added to as new classes are added.  We are starting with the class description of the Beginner Stained Glass Class.  All the classes are held at Inspiration Glass Studio at 211 W. 8th St. in Georgetown, TX.  The class schedules are listed on the events calender.

ALL CLASSES HAVE A MAXIMUM OF 6 STUDENTS AND A MINIMUM OF 3 STUDENTS.  PLEASE CALL 512-869-6630 TO SAVE YOUR SPOT!  REFUND WILL BE GIVEN IF A CLASS IS CANCELLED DUE TO LACK OF STUDENTS.

CANCELLATIONS WILL BE REFUNDED IF DONE 7 DAYS PRIOR TO UPCOMING CLASS.  THERE IS FREE STUDIO TIME DURING CLASSES WITH MULTIPLE DAYS OF CLASSES.

 

CLASSES: Please note that these are all multiple sessions and you will need to be able to attend all of the classes. Makeup classes need to be arranged prior to class and may not be available.

 

BEGINNER STAINED GLASS COPPER FOIL TECHNIQUE

 

Next class starts Saturday March 10,2012 2-5pm. This is a 4 class series with the second class Sunday March 11 1-4pm, third class Saturday March 17 2-5pm and last class Sunday Mar 18 1-4pm. 

Costs:

$75 for class insruction (12 hours-4 3hour classes)

$45 rental of tools or buy or bring your own ($40 of rental fee will go toward purchase of tools if purchased by the last class)

Supplies: flux, solder, glass, foil, zinc came, project board

Starter kit $105 has most of tools

10% discount on supplies or tools (excluding starter kit)

Prior to the 1st class you will need to chose one of patterns provided, make your "cartoon", number pieces, mark direction for directional glass, lear how to use pattern shears and cut out tag board pattern (about 1 hour).

Cost includes free studio time outside of class to work.

INTRODUCTION TO LEAD CAME CONSTRUCTION

We are currently planning a class for late March or early April.  If you are interested please call 512-869-6630 or email me at inspirationglassstudio@verizon.net  to let me know whether you would prefer class on Wednesday, Thursday, or Saturdays.

$60 for 12 hours of instruction over 3 classes.  The tuition is for instruction as well as free studio time during the duration of the class.

Supplies will be available for the class at a 10% discount.

   Class # 1 deals with designing for leaded glass panels as well as designing using bevel clusters.  You will copy an available pattern or design your own panel during this class.  We will also discuss preparation and what will be required for the second class.  HOMEWORK: cut out tag board pattern with lead pattern shears and cut out and grossly grind your glass.

    Class # 2  we will "build" your leaded glass panel in class.  We will teach you how to cut the lead to appropriate angles to create tight joints.

HOMEWORK: you will to complete "building" your panel before class 3

    Class # 3: learn how to solder your joints, strengthen and waterproof your panel with cement/Mudd/or putty, complete your panel.

 

 

WORKSHOPS:  These are single session classes.

 

INTRODUCTION TO STAINED GLASS

$45  includes everything including tools.  You need no experience and will make and take home a copper foiled suncatcher with central bevel.  This is something you can do with your friends or family (anyone over 16 years of age since we will be working with solder and lead) or to see what is involved in creating stained glass.  Maximum of 6 per class so preregistration by calling 512-869-6630 is required to assure your space.

 

SOLDERING WORKSHOP:

$25 Not quite happy with your soldering.  Well this is the class for you.

We will troubleshoot your technique/equipment/supplies and offer suggestions, different techniques, etc to make your projects more professional in appearance.  If we have time, we will try some different decorative soldering techniques.  You will need to bring your soldering equipment, solder, flux, and either a small copper foiled panel ready to solder or 8 foiled 1"x6" strips of glass.  Maximum of 6 per class so preregister by calling 512-869-6630.

 

STAINED GLASS KALEIDOSCOPE

$60 includes 3 hours of instruction, Mini Scope Kit, image disc, patterns, and instructions.  You will need to bring three precut, ground, and foiled opaque pieces of glass which measure exactly 8"x1 1/8".  Must be exact or mirrored glass will not fit properly inside.  You will also need 7/32 silver back copper foil, 60/40 solder, flux, soldering iron and stand, and some small  brightly colored beads or jewels.  We do have kaleidoscope jewels at 10% discount for students.  This class will be taught by Phyllis Hilliard.  Maximum of 6 students per class.  Preregistration is required for this class so we will have enough kaleidoscope kits available.

 

GLASS CUTTING WORKSHOP $25 if you use studio tools. $20 if you have your own tools.

 Next class is scheduled for March 3, 2012 2-4pm.

This is class is a 2 hour introduction to cutting glass.  You will learn how to use the tools of the trade to cut straight lines, inside curves, and outside curve as well as complex shapes.  This class can also be  time to practice if it's been awhile since you've cut glass or if you are breaking more glass than you would like, it can be a time to perfect your cutting techniques.  While all tools are provided, if you have tools, you are encouraged to bring your own tools so that you can practice with the tools you will be using at home.
